CPHI China 2026: China's Veterinary Pharma Enters a New Growth Phase

2026/07/16

Shanghai, June 2026 — The 24th CPHI China concluded successfully at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, once again reaffirming its position as one of the world's leading pharmaceutical industry events. This year's exhibition also highlighted the rapid rise of China's veterinary pharmaceutical sector. From globally unique veterinary APIs and first-in-China innovations to veterinary formulation manufacturers making their CPHI debut, and from discussions on integrated API-formulation development to an FDA zero-observation inspection achieved by Sinopharm Victory Bio, the event demonstrated how China's veterinary pharmaceutical industry is evolving from manufacturing scale to innovation-driven value creation.

One of the highlights of CPHI China 2026 was the strong presence of Chinese veterinary API manufacturers. Longxiang Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Ruipu (Ringpu) Biologics, presented several proprietary veterinary APIs with independent intellectual property rights. Its Valnemulin Dihydrate remains the world's first and only approved product of its kind, while products including Grapiprant, Pyriproxyfen, Permethrin Ether, and Menbutone hold exclusive approvals in China, breaking long-standing dependence on imported products across companion animal therapeutics, antiparasitic agents, and specialized veterinary medicines.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Harbin Sanlian Pharmaceutical (002900) showcased more than 100 products spanning human APIs, veterinary APIs, intermediates, and finished formulations. The company emphasized its integrated "API + Formulation" strategy together with one-stop CDMO and OEM services covering product registration and manufacturing, attracting significant interest from international customers.

AMECARE Biotech (China), one of China's leading veterinary cephalosporin manufacturers, also drew considerable attention. The company has established itself as one of the country's largest producers of veterinary cephalosporin APIs, with multiple products certified by the U.S. FDA, EU GMP, and Japan PMDA. Its products are exported to markets including the United States, Europe, Mexico, Australia, India, Thailand, Argentina, and South Africa, demonstrating China's growing competitiveness in high-end veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Another major exhibitor, Wugan Pharmaceutical, presented its fully integrated sulfonamide production chain. As one of the world's largest sulfonamide manufacturers, more than 70% of the company's products are exported internationally, with several core products holding over 40% market share globally. Having obtained FDA certification and serving multinational companies such as BASF and Bayer, Wugan continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in veterinary sulfonamide APIs.

Zhejiang Medicine also expanded its veterinary presence by showcasing its Animal Nutrition division as an independent business segment alongside its API, formulation, human nutrition, and flavor & fragrance businesses, reflecting the company's continued investment in veterinary pharmaceuticals and feed additives.

Beyond APIs, CPHI China 2026 marked an important milestone for China's veterinary formulation and pharmaceutical excipient industries. Shijiazhuang Shimu Pharmaceutical, a leading veterinary formulation manufacturer, participated in CPHI for the first time, symbolizing the growing international ambitions of China's finished veterinary dosage manufacturers. Meanwhile, Baike Biotechnology, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hengtong Holdings, highlighted its advances in biological fermentation technologies and green manufacturing, attracting strong interest from buyers across South America, South Asia, and Africa.

Chinese pharmaceutical excipient manufacturers also gained increased international attention. Qufu Tianli Pharmaceutical Excipients Co., Ltd. introduced its Beta Cyclodextrin products at CPHI for the first time. Widely used to improve drug solubility, stability, and taste masking, Beta Cyclodextrin has significant applications in veterinary formulations. The company reported strong interest from both domestic and overseas pharmaceutical manufacturers, opening new opportunities for Chinese-made pharmaceutical excipients in international markets.

Industry development was another major focus of the exhibition. On June 17, the 2026 Veterinary API and Veterinary Formulation Policy & Global Market Strategy Forum brought together industry experts, regulators, and business leaders to discuss regulatory developments, market dynamics, and future growth strategies. Participants emphasized that simply manufacturing and selling APIs is no longer sufficient to remain competitive. Instead, greater integration between APIs and finished formulations, combined with stronger innovation capabilities and international compliance, will become the defining characteristics of future industry leaders.

During the event, delegates also visited China Animal Husbandry Industry Co., Ltd. (CAHIC), where its subsidiary Shandong Victory Bioengineering Co., Ltd. shared a significant achievement. The company's Tiamulin Fumarate API successfully passed a U.S. FDA on-site inspection with zero observations, marking its second successful FDA inspection in seven years. As one of China's leading veterinary pharmaceutical exporters, Victory Bio has participated in CPHI Shanghai for more than two decades and exports over half of its production to international markets.

Hou Qingming, Chairman of Victory Bio, noted that China's veterinary API industry is entering a critical transition from competing on manufacturing scale to competing on quality, technology, and innovation. He emphasized that future success will depend on technological advancement, international compliance, and integrated industrial capabilities rather than cost advantages alone. Extending from APIs into finished formulations and expanding from domestic to global markets will become essential for sustainable growth.

Former Deputy Director of the China Institute of Veterinary Drug Control (IVDC), Researcher Zhang Cunshuai, also stressed the strategic importance of independent raw material supply and internationally recognized quality standards. He pointed out that true industrial competitiveness depends not only on manufacturing capacity but also on technological self-reliance and global standard-setting capabilities. According to Zhang, strengthening domestic control over key raw materials while continuously improving quality standards will be fundamental for China's transition from a major veterinary pharmaceutical producer to a global innovation leader.

CPHI China 2026 highlighted the collective advancement of China's veterinary pharmaceutical industry. From globally innovative APIs and integrated manufacturing platforms to internationally certified production facilities and expanding formulation capabilities, Chinese companies are steadily moving beyond scale-driven growth toward innovation, quality, and sustainable global competitiveness. As regulatory standards continue to rise and international competition intensifies, strengthening API innovation, formulation development, pharmaceutical excipients, and global compliance will be essential for building a more resilient and internationally influential veterinary pharmaceutical industry. With continuous investment in research, technology, and integrated industrial development, China's veterinary pharmaceutical sector is well positioned to play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of the global animal health industry.
